Interventions Crew

The Bay Area Transformative Justice Collective holds a free, 3-5 session Intervention Crews Series  every other year, usually during late spring to early summer. This is one of our core program offerings. We curate two small groups of participants who all have some level of connection to our work and familiarity with transformative justice. While the BATJC initiates and facilitates the first gatherings of these crews, we support and encourage groups to keep meeting, learning, and growing together after the series formally concludes. We envision a model where multiple Interventions Crews are forming, learning, and eventually taking on interventions.

Intervention Crews receive an extended introduction to transformative justice and community accountability (CA). It is an opportunity to grow and deepen understanding of TJ/CA with other folks of similar familiarity and experience. Participants learn about core concepts, values, skills, and practices of TJ/CA, while also building the ability to implement them in everyday life. We use a combination of readings, media (audio recordings, videos, etc.), interactive activities, large and small group discussions and traditional teaching throughout Intervention Crews.

We believe that Intervention Crews are an integral part of spreading and growing the work of transformative justice here in the Bay Area because they are rooted in relationship-building. During the crews we share knowledge and also forge new relationships and connections amongst people already responding to and thinking about harm and violence from a TJ-orientation, ultimately creating the conditions for strong networks of skilled folks to successfully respond to violence in all our communities.

At this time we are prioritizing building up skills in people and communities already involved in responding to harm and exploring TJ. If you are still making your first foray into TJ, we highly encourage you to explore our readings and media, and follow us on social media to learn about other upcoming learning opportunities and community events.
